8.1.3 Output GIS: Map Maker

The main GIS engine beneath LUPMIS is Map Maker. A thorough knowledge of Map Maker is therefore beneficial to run LUPMIS and explains Chapter 1-7 of this Manual.

Map Maker is ideal for processing, digitizing and also recommended for output, though there are alternatives to present maps either in different software (e.g. QGIS) or on Internet map browsers (e.g. Google Maps or OpenStreetMaps).

Technical note: Map Maker has a powerful programming interface for GIS processing, the MMmacro command language. This can be called from outside Map Maker and is used frequently in LUPMIS. The only exception for GIS processing are some image processing procedures, which are invoked by GDAL library routines.
