LUPMIS is the Information System for Land Use Planning and Management, established by the Land Use Planning and Management Project (LUPMP) at the Town and Country Planning Department (TCPD) of the Government of Ghana, under the umbrella of the Land Administration Project.

Target is the introduction and support of IT technologies into the newly introduced planning schemes for urban planning in Ghana. LUPMIS will work primarily as a decision-support tool for the planning and decision making processes.

Criteria for its development were:

  • Efficiency
  • Sustainability
  • Appropriateness of technology application
  • Simplicity and ease of use
  • Compatibility with other databases

Currently, it is installed in few pilot communities in Ghana, with the goal of nationwide coverage in a few years time.

This
System Design (and Concept) defines the activities and outputs, how it can improve and change land use planning at TCPD in Ghana.

The practical 'GIS User Manual for Land Use Planning' for training purposes can be viewed at a separate website.

An earlier version of this System Design can still be viewed (same content, previous layout).
