6.10.2 LUPMIS Earth

Google with Google Maps and Google Earth provide very good means to display and visualize GIS data of LUPMIS. Many users are familiar with Google.

With Google Earth installed on the computer, it is possible to have plans, maps, parcels, locations displayed. It requires access to the internet for access to Google Earth images, but LUPMIS data are stored locally.



Note: LUPMIS data for Google have to be compiled with the Drawing Tool 'Convert to KML'.

For better visualization, it is also possible to place houses and other structures onto LUPMIS data at Google:



How to prepare these images?

1. Preparation of plan for Google:

In the 'Drawing Tools' of LUPMIS:
Convert to Google > Select DRA file > Either: Polygons (without UPN) or Local Plan with UPN rollover > Press here to convert, and wait a minute




A message will explain, in which file (
KML or KMZ) the map is saved in which folder. You can also display the file now in Google Earth. It is understood, that Google Earth is alredy installed in the computer.




In Google Earth, you can pan (move) with the mouse left button, zoom in and out with the mouse wheel, and change the direction of view with the mouse wheel pressed. You can load this file anytime with the
File > Open from top left of Google Earth.



2. Preparation of houses and structures for Google:

If you want to draw houses and structures for all parcels, you start the process as explained above, but then choose
Houses and structures ...



Again, you can zoom in and out, change direction etc. Use the mouse wheel.





3. Preparation of orthophoto map for improvement in Google:

If you select a photo (
JPG file), only the bottom option 'Raster map' will be active.



The LUPMIS orthophotomap will be displayed on top of the Google internet image. You can fade in and out these images with the switch, shown below. We have discovered errors of less than 3 m upto 400 m or higher. Be ensured, that LUPMIS photomaps are quality-controlled and have a horizontal accuracy of < 3 m.
