If you want to select units based on the attribute data, and show them in future work, you first define the selection criteria:
Main menu > Edit > Show Selection Manager > Find objects by criteria > Find > Under Terms, select field > Define criteria statement > OK > Back to Selection Manager window: Data > Select temporary column TEMP (if it doesn't exist, it has to be created by Main menu > Edit > Edit database > .....) > Column > Enter class number next to 'Set all to' button > Set all to > Table > Check the data > Close the window, and save the layer
To display the layer with colors according to this new selections:
Right-mouse > Project manager > Layers > Select the layer > Data link > Check that the database is choosen and link established through 'ID' > Style > Assign according to... > Database > Data column > Select column TEMP (see above) > OK
